Introduction
On 31 October, Fabrizio Romano posted a list showing several countries and their number-one Ballon d’Or choices. The international vote included countries from all over the world, where journalists selected their favourite Ballon d’Or contenders.
Majority Choose Kane!
The vote was decided by 100 journalists, and 40 of them chose Harry Kane, giving him the biggest majority. On the other hand, Mbappé received 23 votes, which placed him second in the Ballon d’Or rankings. Meanwhile, Spanish winger Lamine Yamal finished third in the competition.
Universal Support
98 out of 100 journalists placed Harry Kane in their Ballon d’Or top 10, showing his universal support.
However, Mexico and Ivory Coast were the only two countries whose journalists did not rank Kane in their Ballon d’Or top 10, which received enormous backlash.
Legacy Continues
Harry Kane became the first Englishman to win the Ballon d’Or since 2001. Michael Owen won the award that year, before the modern era of football began, suggesting that this achievement meant more than just another trophy for Harry Kane. He continued the legacy of the legendary Michael Owen.
