Introduction
On September 29, Fabrizio Romano reported the Premier League’s official confirmation that they found Manchester City guilty of charges related to serious breaches.
Financial Breach
The financial breach happened from 2009/10 to 2017/18, and the revenues were inflated by £900 million.
Last Chance for Manchester City
Manchester City representatives will argue about the charges on October 2 for the last time to determine their innocence or reduced charges.
The appeal is separate from the original case, and no other clubs or organisations will be involved. The punishment will be decided later by the independent Commission.
Penalties
The penalties are not decided yet. However, Manchester City could face enormous penalties, including:
- An unlimited fine
- A points deduction
- Suspension from league matches
- A transfer embargo or cancellation of player registrations
Pep Guardiola’s Mysterious Support
Former manager Pep Guardiola has backed Manchester City’s owners and leadership and says he will “always” be behind the club after they were found guilty of all charges related to breaches of the Premier League’s financial rules.
This statement is very absurd since Pep Guardiola was the coach between 2015 and 2025, handling the team and transfers, meaning that he was aware of what was happening inside the club.
I believe that this statement was made to declare himself innocent from all of the things happening in the club.
Point Deduction?
Many Manchester City players are expected to leave the club next season if the punishment is severe.
According to social media and several analysts, Manchester City could receive a 40 to 60-point deduction. However, this has not been officially confirmed.
Manchester City could also face relegation, but the final punishment has not been decided yet.
My Perspective
In my perspective, these charges were expected, and Manchester City has committed serious breaches at a professional football level.
I believe that Manchester City will start recovering from these charges roughly in 5 years.
