Introduction
The 2026/27 Champions League league phase officially began yesterday with its new 36-team single-table format. Fans are thrilled to see their favorite players in the most prestigious football tournament and are ready for the new season.
What Is the New Format?
UEFA will use a 36-team format instead of the previous 32-team format to include more teams in the Champions League, allowing smaller clubs to enter the competition and removing country coefficient restrictions for many clubs.
There will be no traditional groups. Instead, all teams will be placed in a single standings table. Each team will face 8 different opponents in total: 4 home matches and 4 away matches.
How Are the Opponents Decided?
As many fans know, the opponents are decided by a draw. You can check UEFA’s official website to view the draw.
PSG’s Poor Performance
The 2025/26 UCL champions, Paris Saint-Germain, are showing a poor performance compared to last year, losing their last 3 matches and concerning fans about the club’s future in the long term.
Player Roster
This year’s player roster looks very solid. Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal and Harry Kane have been a debating topic lately, as the Ballon d’Or discussions have reached an extreme point due to the Ballon d’Or nominee announcement.
Also, Mbappé and Jude Bellingham are very dangerous weapons for Real Madrid in the Champions League.
