Beşiktaş 2-1 Fenerbahçe: Beşiktaş Escape Kadıköy as Halil Umut Meler Is Criticized

Introduction

On September 5, Beşiktaş faced Fenerbahçe in the Süper Lig campaign at Chobani Stadium. Beşiktaş won the 3 points, securing a crucial derby victory against Fenerbahçe.

The Match That Left Fenerbahçe Stunned

Milan Škriniar — 26th Minute

Fenerbahçe earned a throw-in, and Brown crossed the ball in with his bare hands into the chaotic Beşiktaş box. In the scramble, the ball nutmegged Agbadou, and Škriniar used the chance to score.

Rıdvan Yılmaz — 38th Minute

Emirhan Topçu passed the ball to Trossard. The Belgian winger cautiously analyzed Fenerbahçe’s box and made a superb lob pass to Rıdvan Yılmaz, who scored to equalize the match.

Dušan Vlahović — 73rd Minute

Jr. Olaitan made a superb lob pass to Orkun. The Turkish midfielder dribbled and passed to Vlahović right before Ederson could catch the ball, and the Serbian star scored.

Halil Umut Meler’s Chaotic Decision-Making

One of the biggest talking points before the derby was the appointment of Halil Umut Meler.

Turkish fans around the world already view referees as biased or a public shame because of poor decisions or possible bias caused by several factors, such as fan pressure or bribery.

Former Turkish referees commented on Halil Umut Meler’s poor decision-making by saying:

Deniz Çoban: “A shirt grab alone isn’t enough for a foul; it needs to restrict the opponent’s movement. In my opinion, there was no foul. The referee’s biggest mistake was blowing the whistle too early.”

Bülent Yıldırım: “There was no clear or forceful pull, and I don’t agree with calling it a foul. The whistle was too early. In my opinion, a goal would have been the correct decision.”

Vincenzo Italiano’s Thoughts

The Italian coach was very happy about the win, and he expressed it by saying:

“I’m experiencing an indescribable happiness. Winning in a derby like this is very important. We showed a great team performance. We earned 3 points here with character and by playing good football.”

İsmail Kartal’s Thoughts

İsmail Kartal took responsibility for the loss by saying:

“We could not meet expectations tonight. We upset our supporters. The entire responsibility is with me and my staff. We did not expect this either. We are very sorry we lost.”

My Perspective

In my perspective, Beşiktaş has improved by a lot under Vincenzo Italiano’s influence, as the team has reunited together and I see them as more organized compared to last year. Roles are very clear at Beşiktaş. Orkun Kökçü is the captain, and everyone listens to him on the pitch.

In my opinion, Fenerbahçe played like a mess. İsmail Kartal had no idea what he was doing during the match. Greenwood was acting too selfishly, the same as Škriniar. Lukaku walked around the pitch, and Vedat Muriqi was not visible on the pitch.
