Ronald Araujo to Liverpool on Loan: Will He Succeed Under Iraola?

Introduction

On August 8, Fabrizio Romano announced an exclusive news stating that Liverpool had agreed a season-long loan deal to sign Barcelona centre-back Ronald Araujo.

The transfer stunned all the fans around the world, with people complimenting Deco’s marketing skills because most people thought that Ronald was very average and Barcelona had to cover his salary.

Contract Details

One season long

Liverpool pays 100% of the salary

Buy option: €55 million (It will not be mandatory)

If he returns to Barcelona, Ronald’s contract will expire in 2031.

Why Araujo Was Not A Good Fit Under Hansi Flick’s Tactics

Araujo transferred to Liverpool because Hansi Flick did not want him in the squad due to Flick’s fast-paced counter-attacking tactics and relying on a defensive defender rather than a tall one.

Documents

All documents are signed between Liverpool and Barcelona, and Araujo is okay with the deal. Ronald Araujo is expected to arrive in England on Sunday, August 9.

His medical checks will be done on the same day he arrives. The official announcement from Barcelona and Liverpool’s social media accounts is expected to come very soon.

My Perspective

In my perspective, both teams made a great decision. Loaning a player like Ronald Araujo is a huge deal for Liverpool.

From Barca’s perspective, Ronald is a slow and tall defensive player, making him unable to keep up with Flick’s plan. But under Iraola, the priorities are different, including things like:

Elite Recovery Pace

1v1 Agility & Dominance

Tactical Flexibility

Aggressive Front-Foot Defending
