Spain Celebrates World Cup Victory: Nearly Two Million Fans Join Historic Parade

Introduction

Yesterday, Spain returned home one day after winning the 2026 FIFA World Cup final against Argentina, claiming a 1–0 victory thanks to Ferran Torres’ precise finish.

When La Roja stepped out of the airport, a huge crowd gathered around them as if they had won a war, welcoming the players when they touched down at Madrid’s Barajas Airport at 2:30 p.m. local time on Monday.

Two Million People Attended the Bus Parade

The Spanish Football Federation organized a massive open-top bus parade through central Madrid.

Nearly 2 million people attended the celebration, making it the largest football victory parade of all time, surpassing Arsenal’s previous record after winning the Premier League.

Thousands of Spanish fans lined the streets waving flags, singing songs, and celebrating their nation’s second FIFA World Cup title.

Argentina’s Heartbreak

While the Spanish side was celebrating the huge victory, the Argentinian squad was left devastated as the World Cup trophy slipped away in the 106th minute.

The disappointment became even greater after Lionel Messi hinted that the tournament could be his final appearance for the Argentina national team.

Messi said:

“The pain is immense, it will take time for this wound to heal. But I also choose to hold on to all the good things, all the matches we turned around by giving everything and the moments that will remain in our memories forever.

I will always remember the support of an entire country that, together with the work and effort of this group, brought us back once again among the best teams in the world.

Today, it is difficult to appreciate what we achieved… but this group has really reached two consecutive World Cup finals.”

Palace Visit

The team did not immediately begin the bus parade.

Instead, they first met with King Felipe VI, Queen Letizia, and Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez at Zarzuela Palace before beginning the celebrations.

The players were welcomed with applause before posing for official photographs. The bus was decorated with banners and posters featuring the slogan “Kings of the World.”

Sánchez’s Praise for Spain

Spain’s Prime Minister welcomed the world champions by saying:

“WE ARE WORLD CHAMPIONS!!”

“What an amazing national squad. Thank you, team.”

His message quickly went viral across Spain, with millions of supporters celebrating alongside the national team.

José Luis Martínez’s Message to the Spanish Crowd

Madrid Mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida also praised how smoothly the celebrations were organized, telling Radio Nacional de España that the capital had worked hard to give the team the homecoming they deserved.

He also praised the peaceful and joyful atmosphere that followed Spain’s victory on Sunday night.

According to the mayor, Spanish supporters behaved respectfully throughout the celebrations, with no major incidents reported.

He congratulated every fan who attended the bus parade for making it a memorable and safe celebration.
